On June 23 and 24 Members of Chilhowie Fire and Marion Fire took part in a back to basics and advanced hydraulic tool vehicle rescue course at CFD. The basic portion of the class was to reinforce skills with tools such as a come-along high-lift jacks reciprocating saws rescue struts etc. One of the skills learned was the backward removal of doors using hand tools only. Also exercises on impaled foreign objects and head protrusion thru the windshield were performed. Members were challenged to put their skills to work in a final exercise that consisted of a rapid patient extrication from beneath a vehicle using a pry-bar and cribbing and a vehicle on top of a station wagon w the removal of the roof and rolling of the dash. We would like to thank Lowes Garage for donating the vehicles and Bobbys Body Shop for helping Lowes transport the vehicles.
