Company 3 responded to a MVC at the 500 block of Tattle Branch Road. Upon arrival, found a single vehicle had gone over an embankment into a creek. Extricated the driver and transported to the ED. Call cleared 23:52.

Company 3 along with Company 1 responded to a mutiple vehicle MVC at the 40 SB of I-81. Upon arrival, found three seperate scenes. Company 1 responded to two of the MVCs and Company 3 responded to a tractor-trailer over an embankment on its side. The driver was extricated and air rescued. Assisted with identifying the double-trailer's hazardous contents as a wrecker company and clean-up crew off-loaded them. Traffic controlled throughout the day. Call cleared 20:35.

2016 Awards Dinner

The Town of Chilhowie Fire & EMS Department held its annual Awards Dinner for the year 2016 on March 3, 2017 at the Old High School. In 2016, the Department responded to 1,127 fire, rescue and EMS incidents, transported 750 patients to area hospitals, laid 7,570' of hose, pulled 11,371.50 hours of volunteer duties. completed 2,143 hours of training and collectively received 36 new certifications. The development of the fire training center was continued, including work on the drafting/pump training prop and the vehicle fire prop. A generous donation of a flagpole was received from the Woodmen of the World and will be installed in the spring of 2017. Chief Dave Haynes, Assistant Chief Brandon Moore, Deputy Chief Josh Davidson and Deputy Chief Jerry Widener made the presentations. (1) Governor's Transportation Safety Award in the category of Occupant Protection was presented to the Department. It was received on June 27, 2016 due to the Departments efforts in child safety seat installations. (2) Explorer Post Recognition: Explorer Dillon Keesee and Advisors DC Josh Davidson, Cpt. Randy Jones and Sgt. Jeannie Haynes. (3) New Members: FF Logan Ashlin and FF Alex Taschereau. (4) Educational Achievement Ribbon: FF Jenna Haynes and FF Hunter Ruffin completed EMT-Intermediate and Swiftwater Rescue Technician training, FF Alex Taschereau and FF Logan Ashlin completed EMT-Basic training. (5) J. E. Morphew Award: Sgt. Randy Sturgill, FF Hunter Ruffin, FF Jenna Haynes, FF Alex Taschereau and FF Logan Ashlin completed 200 or more training hours. (6) Charles W. "Brother" Smith Ribbon: Chief Dave Haynes, AC Brandon Moore, DC Josh Davidson, DC Jerry Widener, Chief Engineer Bill Dungan, Cpt. Randy Jones, Sgt. Jeannie Haynes, Sgt. Randy Sturgill, FF Jay Keen, FF Jenna Haynes, FF Hunter Ruffin, EMT Barbara Jones, FF Logan Ashlin and EMT Mark McGee responded to an active Urban Search & Rescue incident between the years 2008-2016. (7) Letters of Commendation: AC Brandon Moore, DC Josh Davidson, Cpt. Randy Jones and EMT Barbara Jones responded to an EMS incident for a patient complaining of back pain and difficulty breathing. While loading the patient for transport to the ER, he went into respiratory arrest and CPR was performed. The patient was successfully resuscitated. (8) Gold and Silver Lifesaving Awards and Letter of Commendation: AC Brandon Moore and FF Hunter Ruffin (Gold), Chief Dave Haynes, DC Josh Davidson and FF Jenna Haynes (Silver), Chief Engineer Bill Dungan, Cpt. Randy Jones, Sgt. Jeannie Haynes, Sgt. Randy Sturgill, EMT Barbara Jones, EMT Mark McGee and FF Logan Ashlin (Letters) responded to an incident where two hunters had fallen over a cliff and a technical rope rescue was performed.
